Your Website: Don’t Get Stuck In Traffic

Your Website: Don't Get Stuck In Traffic
Introduction

Your website is the online equivalent of a shop-front and is a vital asset in converting potential customers into leads and sales. Having a visually attractive website with a smooth user journey is key, but how do you drive traffic to your website in the first place?

Design - Start By Looking Good

The old adage ‘first impressions count’ certainly applies here. If you want to generate more traffic you must ensure that your website is appealing and easy to navigate, with clear calls to action and well-written content. Commissioning a professionally created and designed site is an investment which will pay off – not only will it attract more visitors, but a quality site will help convert more of these visitors into leads and, ultimately, sales. Begin by talking to some experts - as with any field, there are plenty to choose from, but it is important that you make clear what is you want your website to deliver for your business.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

You will no doubt have heard of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) but may not know precisely what it is and why it’s important. Optimising your website in a way that search engines can not only find it, but place it higher in search results, is clearly key. This is down to SEO and is achieved by using relevant keywords.

Pay Per Click (PPC)

PPC: Pay-per-click advertising is another expression you’ll probably have come across. PPC, in essence, is a method to drive traffic to your website – this is done through paid-for online advertisements that appear in relevant search results. However, as the name suggests, you will only pay when a person actually clicks on your advert.

Social Media

Social media represents an excellent set of tools for generating visitors to your website, but it can achieve more – engaging and informative content can help build relationships with both potential and existing customers. This type of traffic is more likely to be interested in your products or services and are therefore better sales prospects.

So Which Method Is Best?

As with anything in life or business, there are pros and cons. It’s worth noting that SEO takes time to provide results but is a good option for building longer-term, consistent levels of traffic. PPC and social media, when done well, can generate traffic almost immediately. However, a combination of methods, looking at short term hits and future planning, may just be the right option, depending on your business plan and goals.
