We have arrived at the time of year when after the Christmas rush is over, things are winding down, we can take time to pause and reflect on the year that has passed and look forward to the new year ahead.
Throughout the year you may have been pondering certain ideas, whether they be for business or personal development. Whilst thinking of your brilliant idea you may have found yourself churning the following thoughts through your head;
“It sounds good but I don’t think I could do it.” (You can!)
“It’s a bit late for me to try that now.” (It’s not!)
“Maybe I’ll try that later.” (I bet you didn’t)
We overthink to the point where we convince ourselves that it’s not worth pursuing and put it on the back burner for another day until we inevitably forget about it or blame something or someone else;
“The time wasn’t right.” (It probably was!)
“I can’t just drop everything and do this.” (who said anything about that?)
“So and so said I can’t do it.” (they are the boss of you?)
It is usually this type of thinking that prevents us from going forward. When the thought first pops into our heads it seems so clear and obvious, but at the same time too good to be true. This is the best time to act on our thoughts and go ahead with what we want to do because they are fresh in our minds and at the time it’s what we truly want.
When reflecting on what a year has been and what the next could hold in store for you, don’t dilute any brilliant ideas you have by overthinking, instead embrace them and channel them in have a successful and positive 2017!
