Paul Scully MP Q&A

Question 2) Company directors on furlough can work part-time for their business under the latest, amended rules and can claim the government furlough assistance. Where can SME company directors find the information on this?

Detailed guidance is published on the GOV.UK website via the following link: www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-for-wages-through-the-coronavirus-job-retention-scheme

Question 3) What is the ministers thoughts on extending the stamp duty holiday to help the housing market, especially given the longer time that conveyancing is taking?

The temporary increase in the Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) nil rate band was designed to create immediate momentum within the property market, where property transactions fell by as much as 50 per cent during the COVID-19 lockdown in March. The downturn in the market meant that the future was uncertain for many people whose jobs relied on custom from the property industry. An increase in residential property transactions in response to the SDLT relief will support these jobs, including in retail, construction and trade. The temporary relief will end on 31st March 2021.
