Meet the Entrepreneurs Part 3!

Thank you for tuning in to the final part of our ‘Meet the Entrepreneurs’ series! In this Blog, we meet Alex, former Grenadier Guard from Surrey.

Concept Building Solutions

After five and half years in the Army and two tours of Afghanistan, Alex went into a franchise and now runs Concept Building Solutions, providing insurance claims management and building repair services. From start to finish they deal with the insurance company and use their vetted tradesman to return the property back to its original state.

What made you decide to set up your own business?

I had finished gutting and refurbishing my flat which I had enjoyed doing so much. Therefore decided to do a course in carpentry, but with injuries and my back causing problems I knew it was a bad move for later on in life, so I looked at ways to start a building firm where I could quote jobs and project manage the work. This led me into a franchise that deal with building repair alongside liaising with the insurance company.”

What are the challenges you’ve faced in running your own business?

Trying to control things I couldn’t, I have learnt not to waste energy in aspects of the job that just aren’t quite ready to unfold yet. You don’t have to achieve everything by the end of the day.

What advice would you give to other people, thinking about becoming an entrepreneur?

Research, research, research. Tunnel vision is deadly at the beginning phase but at the same time I would urge people to just go with it because you have more fun that way.

Maybe some wise advice would be to look at how your idea of a business is truly going to benefit the customer, rather than just looking at how much money you can earn.”
