David Smith, RAF Veteran Becomes X-Forces Ambassador in East Anglia

David Smith, Royal Air Forces Veteran and founder of CrossFit Spitfire in Norwich, is the new X-Forces Ambassador for East Anglia.

After David received a Start-Up Loan and mentoring from the X-Forces team, he launched his business and is keen to continue working with X-Forces long term to inspire other members of the Armed Forces community to explore self-employment.

I am thrilled to become an X-Forces Ambassador, and work alongside new beneficiaries within our amazing community! I look forward to being able to share my experience and knowledge with the next generation of entrepreneurs, which alongside the support from X-Forces is an amazing way to ensure that new start-ups have the confidence to make the right decisions when they need it most.  The transition from service life to self-employment can be extremely challenging and daunting, but together we are stronger and anything is possible. After all, failure is not an option…!

David’s business, CrossFit Spitfire, is based in Norwich, Norfolk and offers Specialty Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Gymnastics and Strength and Conditioning classes and workshops for both adults and kids.  David created the businesses after his time in the RAF; he fell in love with fitness, functional movement and strength/conditioning training through the RAF and threw himself into fitness which ultimately gave him the idea to turn his passion into a business.  He currently employs six adult coaches, with support from three kids coaches, and an on-site established Osteopath and Sports Massage Therapist.

CrossFit Spitfire has reached almost double its initial Business Plan target for members after its first year of operation.  As a result we are investing heavily in an amazing array of new strength and conditioning equipment, gymnastics equipment and also kids specific equipment to support the increase in clients, along with the variety and quality of programming and training available.  This also includes additional training courses for coaches, including every member of the team becoming a fully qualified Level 2 British Weightlifting Coach.

David and his team are also about to introduce a dedicated training syllabus for those who are planning on joining the military. The program will equip each entrant for the fitness standards and demands of each military service. Alongside this program, CrossFit Spitfire has also developed a programme of ‘Adaptive Athlete’ training for people who have left the military with life-changing injuries and specific rehabilitation requirements.
